If you need a short-wave tube to get things hot fast, or a curved profile that actually follows the bend radius of your part, we just build it that way. No compromises.
The Balancing Act: Heat vs. Stress
Here’s the thing about shortening a lamp: you’re changing the wattage per centimeter. If you shrink the tube but keep the power cranked up to maintain that heat flux, you’re putting a lot of stress on the quartz. It’s a delicate balance. You also have to make sure your wiring can actually handle that current draw without melting. To stop your lamps from burning out at the connection point, we offer a few different terminal options. It’s all about ensuring a solid contact so you aren’t replacing parts every two weeks.
Making it Work in the Field
When you have a custom shape, you can tuck the heat source much closer to the material. This is great because you stop wasting energy heating up the furnace walls and put all that power directly into the part. But there is a catch. The closer you are, the more likely it is that scale or debris will fly off the part and hit the tube. That’s a recipe for hotspots and cracked quartz. To keep things running smoothly, I always recommend a protective shield or a strict cleaning schedule. A little bit of maintenance saves you from a lot of downtime.
