
Stop Your IP65 Infrared Heaters From Burning Out
If you’ve worked with infrared heaters, you know the drill. Everything is running fine until—pop—the heater fails right where the wires meet the quartz tube. In an IP65 setup, most people worry about dust or a splash of water. But that’s not usually what kills the element. The real culprit is the heat itself. Specifically, the constant expanding and shrinking. When the heater hits its peak, the metal leads and the sealant don’t move at the same rate. This creates tiny, invisible gaps.
Why your seals are cracking
Here’s the thing: most generic heaters use basic silicone or some cheap epoxy. It works for a while. But under constant high heat, that stuff basically bakes. It gets brittle. It cracks. Once that seal breaks, oxygen rushes in. That’s when you get a burnout at the terminal or a short circuit that trips your breakers and shuts down your whole line. Not exactly how you want to spend your Tuesday. We do things differently. We use a multi-stage bonding process where a specialized sealant is vacuum-compressed around the leads. The danger of “cheap” fixes
If you’re running a high-density array, one bad element can mess up the entire bank. Cheap seals leak. When moisture gets in and mixes with carbonized dust, it creates a conductive path. Then you get arcing. Our replacement elements use high-Tg polymers. In plain English? They don’t soften or “bleed” oil when things get scorching hot. You get a part that you can drop in and trust to hold its strength over thousands of cycles.
One quick tip for installation
There is a trade-off. Because our sealing is so much tougher, the point where the wire exits the seal is more rigid. Don’t bend the wires at a sharp angle right at the seal. If you force a tight bend while installing it, you’re putting way too much stress on the internal bond. Just give the wire a few centimeters of slack. Your heater will thank you, and you won’t be replacing it again in six months.
