
Stop Wasting Power on Quartz Glass Annealing
Let’s be honest: annealing quartz glass is a power hog. If you’re using traditional resistive furnaces, you’re basically paying to heat up the air and the walls of the chamber long before the glass even notices. It’s a waste of money and a waste of time. We’ve found a better way. Instead of heating the whole room, we use short-wave infrared (IR) lamps to hit the workpiece directly.
Why direct heat just works
Think of it like this: instead of waiting for a whole room to warm up, you’re stepping into the sunlight. IR radiation doesn’t mess around with convection; it goes straight into the quartz surface. This means you aren’t spending your budget heating the rest of the factory. You get to your annealing point way faster. And when you ramp up quickly, you get more parts out the door every single shift. It’s a win-win.
The nitty-gritty on setup
We spec these lamps for high heat density. Depending on how long your tunnel is, we tweak the wattage and voltage so the heat stays even across the glass. No cold spots, no surprises. But here’s the thing: you’ve got to keep an eye on your power. High-wattage IR tubes pull a lot of current. If you’re dropping these into an old chassis,please check your wiring and breakers first. These tubes get incredibly hot. If your cooling fans aren’t up to the task, you’re going to fry your controllers. It’s a headache you don’t want.
Getting it installed (and keeping it running)
We use standard connectors, so these are pretty much a “drop-in” replacement for your old heating elements. It keeps the downtime short so you can get back to work. Now, a word of warning. The quartz envelopes are tough, but they have a weakness:fingerprints. If you touch the glass with oily fingers during installation, you’ll create hot spots. Those spots will eat through the tube, and it’ll fail way sooner than it should. Our best advice? Wear gloves. Or just grab some alcohol and wipe the tubes down before you wire them up. Keep the glass sparkling clean, and your lamps will actually last as long as they’re supposed to.
